Derbyshire's new Financial Inclusion strategy
A person who is financially included is one who
- Has an understanding of how to make sound financial decisions
- Has access to the services needed to put those decisions in to practice, i.e. banking, affordable credit and financial advice
Back in Summer ‘08 a Financial Inclusion workshop was held in Derbyshire to look at whether we can do more to ensure financial exclusion is a thing of the past. After that a steering group was set up to move the necessary work forward. Sylvia Green of DRCC pulled together a strategy with funding from Capacity Builders.
Have a look at the strategy.

National Indicator 7 Survey Results.
How thriving is Derbyshire's 3rd sector?
Central Government have just published the results of the National Survey of third sector organisations. While Derbyshire had the highest number of surveys returned, we have one of the lowest baselines in the region. This means that, on average, third sector organisations in Derbyshire feel that our statutory partners are not influential in their success and less so than in other parts of the region. Having NI 7 as part of Derbyshire's LAA is an effort to address this and all the statutory agencies working within the county have pledged to support the sector to thrive. You can download a full copy of the report here.

Progress on National Indicator 7
3D members, together with representatives from GOEM and Derbyshire’s Culture Board and the County Council’s policy team have begun discussing National Indicator 7 – How do we create an environment for a thriving third sector? Discussions have used the report from the NI 7 event back in November 08 as a starting point to ensure the views of frontline organisations are fed in. However, it’s not too late to have your say!
You can download a copy of the draft action plan and feedback via the website.
National Indicator 7 in the East Midlands
Kerrie Fletcher, 3D's manager, recently caried out some research on behalf of One East Midlands. She looked at which of the region's LAAs have included National Indicator 7 (Environment for a thriving third sector). The report assesses the results from the national third sector survey and asks how each Local Strategic Partnership is progressing with delivering against the indicator. You can download the full report here.

Headline Results from the NI 7 Survey
The Office of the Third Sector (OTS) has now published the initial findings from their National Survey of 3rd sector organisations. The document (which you can download below) shows how Derbyshire compares with the rest of the UK and sets an improvement target. It is not a full analysis of all the answers to all of the questions contained in the survey. However, the OTS believes that where organisations have had greater involvement with the statutory sector that it has, on the whole, benefited the Voluntary Community sector. All the more reason to get involved with your District LSP or the LAA!

The Personalisation Agenda in Health and Social Care.
One of the big topics at the Health and Wellbeing Partnership is the Governments new Personalisation agenda. Based on the 2007 Concordat ‘Putting people First’ the County Council have begun work on a series of projects to deliver the new agenda.
Put simply the Vision is that people in need of support will be able to choose where they but that from. An assessment will establish a personal budget which the individual can choose to manage them-selves or have managed on their behalf. It is still very early days and no-one really knows yet how the Vision will become reality or how this will affect small Voluntary Sector organisations.
The County Council is establishing 7 Project Boards to deal with different aspects of the Vision. Voice will work in partnership with NDVA and 3D to ensure there is voluntary sector representation at each Board so that you can inform and be kept informed of developments.
You can download a copy of the concordat and a report from an event back in May when the VCS were invited to comment on the plans.

Bolsover LSP VCS Rep Induction day a great success!
On the 4th November, 2008 the Voice Project worked in partnership with Bolsover CVP and Bolsover LSP to hold an induction event for the district’s VCS representatives on the LSP. The Leader of the Council (Eion Watts) and the Chief Executive (Wes Lumley) both attended the event to welcome the reps to the Council and it’s offices. Mandy Chambers, who chairs the LSP Board, gave a presentation stressing the importance of the voluntary sector contribution and everyone had time for a good question and answer session. The reps also had presentations and took part in workshops to clarify the role of the LSP, its link to the Derbyshire Partnership Forum and the LAA and to understand their role within it. Everyone agreed that the day was very worthwhile and we hope to continue to offer it as an annual event, at least.
